2024 Bryden Girl - Chiedza Munemo
I still vividly remember my first day at Bryden in 2021. I was nervous, yet filled with anticipation and expectation of what I would achieve.
My time at Bryden has had a profound impact on my perspective of school life, encompassing music, sports, classes, hostel life and much more. I will deeply miss every teacher who has guided me throughout my junior school journey, particularly Mrs Pondwa, whose kind and tactical approach inspired me; Mr Nxumalo, whose kind soul and wealth of knowledge on life, work and skills were invaluable; and Mr Jess, whose uplifting coaching style and dedication motivated me. I must also mention Mr Roper, whose unique blend of fun and strictness, coupled with his vast knowledge of science, swimming, tennis and hockey, made learning enjoyable.
The support from my fellow Bryden students has been unwavering throughout my years here. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the JM's and Mrs O, who became like family to me; Mrs Jess, who took on a motherly role; Coach Dumi, who embodied a fatherly figure; and Mrs Paice, whose patience and guidance helped me become the best version of myself.
One particular memory that stands out was during my time as a Grade 7 student. In the middle of the night, Mrs O asked us who amongst us didn't believe they could become Bryden Girl. I raised my hand, expressing my doubts about being late for inspections. Mrs O reassured me that being punctual was not the sole criterion for the award. Her words pushed me to persevere, and although I still harboured doubts, I eventually won the Bryden Girl Award. The feeling of pride and self-belief that came with it has stayed with me ever since.
As I bid farewell to Bryden, my parting message to the students is to never lose hope, even when faced with challenges. Keep pushing forward, and you will reap the rewards. Do Bryden proud!
