2024 Bryden Boy - Liam Hobson

As I stepped into my first day of Grade 1 with Mrs. Kaye, wearing an oversized grey uniform, I had a clear goal in mind: to become the 1st Team Cricket Captain. My passion for cricket was evident even back then, as I would often air bat and bowl in the corridors and playground.

My cricket journey began in Grade 2 when Mr. Matthews selected me for the Colts B team in the third term. I played my first Quadrangular at Springvale and was also chosen to represent Bryden in swimming.

Grade 3 brought unexpected challenges as COVID-19 forced us into homeschooling. I must admit that Miss Willcock's patience and teaching skills far surpassed my mom's!

In Grade 5, I achieved a remarkable milestone as captain of Colts A, scoring 75 not out against Springvale. Although we declared 105 the following day, the 75 remains a greater achievement in my eyes.

Reaching Grade 7 was a dream come true, as I finally attained my goal of becoming the 1st Team Cricket Captain. The hard work and dedication had paid off.

I was honoured to represent Mashonaland West in cricket, hockey, and rugby in Grade 7, with our teams finishing second in all three tournaments. I also enjoyed my backstage roles in the school plays during Grade 6 and Grade 7.

Mathematics and Science were my favourite subjects, but I was thrilled to have two of my stories entered into the Allied Arts Literary and Girls College Literacy competitions in Grade 7.

I cherish the memories and experiences gained during my time at Bryden. I will miss Mr. Roper, although I'm sure he won't miss our frequent cricket discussions!

Being chosen as Bryden Boy was a tremendous honour. I urge all students to set goals, strive to achieve them, and treat others with kindness and respect.
