2025 Bryden Girl - Haatsari Chikombero
I still remember the day I first walked through the Bryden doors in 2021. My mother lovingly encouraged me to be kind, quiet, and brave, even as I carried the heavy weight of losing my beloved father that year—a loss that could have easily dimmed my light. Instead, what unfolded was the beginning of quite an extraordinary journey.
I embraced opportunities I had never imagined before with an open mind and excitement—recorder lessons, swimming, tennis, netball, hockey, and even boarding life as early as Grade 3. Through these experiences, I have grown into a confident, compassionate, and determined person. My resilience, I hope, has inspired others, and I know this growth would not have been possible without my incredible Bryden family—the teachers who nurtured my potential and the parents who welcomed me as one of their own, cheering me on at every school event.
Together, they gave me a soft landing, surrounding me with love, guidance, and encouragement over the years. I am proud of the milestones I’ve achieved— being trusted with the big responsibility of a House Captain, receiving Honours for my poem in the Girls College Literary Competition, representing Bryden at Allied Arts, Mash-West Hockey and Swimming, and earning Level 1 Zim Swimming Awards. Special thanks to Mr. Roper and ALL staff members for believing in me and helping me to let my light shine in different ways.
Being chosen to receive the Bryden Girl Award for 2025 is an honour beyond words. This award is not just a recognition of excellence; it is a tribute to courage and to the school community. Bryden gave me wings to fly and has shaped the person I am today.
I dedicate this award to my beloved father, whose memory continues to inspire me, and to all the wonderful people— my mum, teachers, my family, the parents, and my friends—who gave me the support I needed to excel. Thank you, Bryden Country School, for giving me a home, a family, and endless opportunities.
